Ancient and illustrious family originally from Modena. Spaccini records it in his Chronicle among the noble families of Modena in 1543. Today there is no news of this family. Viviano Marchesi G. wants in his "La Galeria dell'onore", published in Forlì in 1735, and with him the authors in agreement, to be this a noble and ancient family originally from Emilia-Romagna. Many writers have believed that this family named after this surname is an same family, and derived from the same jamb; and this at first sight many would believe it, not only to bear this the same surname, but still the same names, and in the same centuries, that in truth it is still seen to derive this family from the same jamb, which could be in ancient centuries; but as far as the Scriptures are concerned, this family is seen to be different from the other namesakes.
