Antica famiglia piemontese, originaria di Savigliano, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Carlo-Alberto Re di Sardegna, con lettere patenti 27 Giu. 1835, conferì a Giovanni Regis, collaterale della R. Camera de' conti il titolo e la dignità di conte, trasmissibile ai suoi discendenti maschi in linea primogenita; Vittorio-Emanuele II, Re di Sardegna, lo creò senatore del regno. Anche Gaspare-Domenico Regis, non sppiamo se fratello o nipote del precedente, colonnello comandante il secondo reggimento della brigata d'Acqui, ottenne dallo stesso re Carlo-Alberto il titolo comitale, con lettere patenti 15 Dic. 1838. A tal casato, inoltre, appartenne San Giovanni Francesco Regis, nato a Font-Couverte, il 31 gennaio 1597. Ancora ragazzo, egli, dimostrò subito grande amore per lo studio e per la religione, così venne introdotto nel collegio dei Gesuiti di Bezieres. Dopo un breve periodo si recò a Tolosa per incominciare il noviziato. Da qui fu mandato a Cahors,
