Sono originari dalla Riviera di Ponente da una località omonima sopra Savona, venuti ad abitare a Genova nel 1480. Nella riforma politica del 1528 entrarono nei Doria Fabiano e Andrea, altri entrarono nei Gentile; il Ganduccio ricorda un Costantino che era degli ill.mi senatori nel 1542. Il Sopranis (Scrittori della Liguria) menziona un Gio. Francesco, vivente nel 1627, che pubblicò poesie in volgare e pronunciò l'orazione per l'incoronazione del doge Federico De Franchi nel 1723, Nicolò fu capitano a Pieve di Teco. Nel 1750 Francesco Maria fu senatore. Un Giovanni Battista, di nobile sangue nato nel 1778, fu maestro di Pietro Giuria a Savona, ove al dire di questo scrittore era popolarissimo. Un ramo della famiglia si trasferì a Tabarca e in Sardegna: Gio. Girolamo, figlio di Francesco Maria e di Barbara Cunez, belga, nato a Tabarca nel 1640, fu ascritto alla nobiltà nel 1681.
