Famiglia di origine milanese, chiamata anticamente de' Regni. Fu ascritta nel catalogo degli Ordini nel 1277 e ottenne dall'imperatore Carlo IV il titolo e la dignità di conte palatino con Diploma dato a Rottemburgo il 9 agosto 1358. Nel 1388 un Guglielmo fu decurione della Parrocchia di S. Pietro alla Vigna di Milano; un Gavazzo nel 1404 era capitano di Porta Vercellina e aiutò con falso ordine ducale i fuorusciti guelfi a rientrare in città; un Francesco nel 1412 fu bandito da Filippo Maria Visconti per sospetto di complicità nell'uccisione del duca precedente; un Giovanni Azzo nel 1499 fu dottore collegiato; Lancellotto nel 1518 fu tra i primi decurioni istituiti a Milano dal Governo francese; Azzone nel 1519 fu vicario di Provvisione; Gottardo fu prima vicario di Provvisione nel 1563 e poi eletto senatore e Magnifico Rettore dell'Università di Pavia; Antonio nel 1618 fu insignito dal re di Spagna dell'Ordine
