Da un antico albero genealogico posseduto dalla famiglia risulta la sua antica nobiltà ed appare essere il suo nome derivato dal nome proprio Remigio. Un Wilelmo è cittadino di Luni nel 1121; suo figlio Remigio, console di Luni nel 1154 sposa Beatrice di Pavente dei nobili di Valecchia ed è padre di Carenzio, console di Sarzana, di Alberto canonico di Luni (1221), di Salvo, miles (1231). Il figlio di Carenzio, Giovannello Remigio sposa nel 1287 Brandomia di ser Gian Remedio Cursi di Monte Marcello e istituisce nel 1328 un fidecommiso sopra una villa di Licciana. Di qui si susseguono i nomi di Gian Remedio, Remigio, Remedio, tutti qualificati "miles et doctor" finchè modificati in Remedi, sono assunti come cognome. Nel 1437 Remigio, fratello di Giovanni, ambidue "milite et doctores", figlio di Remedio sposa Giulia dei marchesi Malaspina. Da lui Domenico doctor, miles, vicario generale del Duca di Milano (1465) marito
