Alte und sehr adlige toskanische Familie mit Wohnsitz in Florenz, bekannt als (della) Rena oder Renai, verbreitete sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte in verschiedenen Regionen Italiens. Die Familie erhielt ihren Nachnamen von einer gleichnamigen Burg im Casentino. Es gab der Republik auch drei Gonfalonieri und neunzehn Priore und zwei Senatoren im Fürstentum. Andererseits ist es dieser Familie im Laufe der Jahrzehnte immer wieder gelungen, eine Reihe von Männern hervorzubringen, die sich im öffentlichen Dienst, in den freien und kirchlichen Berufen und im Militärdienst einen Namen gemacht haben. Unter diesen, ohne den Wert des Weggelassenen zu schmälern, zählen: Tommaso, Gutsbesitzer im florentinischen Gebiet, der 1503 aufblühte; Antonio Maria, Doktor beider Gesetze, blühte 1525 in Florenz auf; Gio. Batta, Landbesitzer in der Florentiner Gegend, florierte 1539; P. Nicola vom Orden der reformierten Minderjährigen, der 1602 in Florenz aufblühte; Geri, tapferer General im Dienst der Könige von Spanien, von dem er die Markgrafschaft
