Antigua y muy noble familia de Benevento, a cuyo patriciado estaba adscrita, de clara y ancestral virtud, que se ha extendido a lo largo de los siglos en diversas regiones de Italia y del mundo. A finales del siglo XV se trasladó a Nápoles, donde también gozó de nobleza y fue adscrita a la sede de Nido. Bartolo Rendina floreció en 1520 y fue barón de Scapoli, Licignano, Osciano y Foiano. En Nápoles la familia tenía su propia tumba noble en la capilla de la iglesia de S. Giorgio Maggiore. En el siglo XVII, la familia Rendina se casó en Basílicata, añadiéndose a la sede de los nobles de Potenza. En 1622 Felipe IV concedió el título de conde a Carlo Rendina y, en 1673, su hijo Gerardo Antonio compró el deshabitado feudo de Campomaggiore, al que trasladó el título de conde.
