Famiglia di chiara ed antica virtù, originaria del beneventano, al cui patriziato era ascritta, trasferitasi, verso la fine del XV secolo, in Napoli, ove godette pure nobiltà e fu ascritta al seggio di Nido. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione è riferibile ad una variazione dialettale aferetica del nome greco Layrentios, ossia Lorenzo. Un Bartolo Rendine nel 1520 era in Napoli barone di Scapoli, di Licignano, di Osciano e Foiano. Nella cappella della chiesa di S. Giorgio Maggiore di Napoli era il sepolcro gentilizio dei Rendine. Passati in Basilicata, vennero ascritti al seggio dei nobili della città di Potenza, e Gerardo-Antonio vi acquistò il feudo nobile di Campomaggiore nel 1673, di cui ottenne in seguito la investitura col titolo di conte.
