Famiglia di origine assai antica, risalendo la genealogia fino al principio del XIII secolo. Lapo fu priore in Siena nel 1339 e la stessa carica ricoperse suo figlio Lippo nel 1383. Anche il figlio di Lippo, Alberto, godette dello stesso onore nel 1405, ma dopo di lui la famiglia non occupò più cariche pubbliche e si trasferì poi, nel XVI secolo, a Colle Val d'Elsa, ove aveva vasti terreni. Verso la fine del '700 Gregorio di Antonio, di Jacopo, sposò Caterina Rocchi, della nobile famiglia senese, aggiungendone i suoi discendenti il cognome e lo stemma, che è: D'oro, alla fascia di nero, accompagnato da tre rocchi dello stesso, due in capo ed uno in punta. Anton Francesco, di Gregorio fu rettore dello spedale di S. Maria della Scala di Siena nel 1806, ottenne il cavalierato di S. Stefano nel 1825 e fu nominato ciambellano del granduca Leopoldo

Note: Si trovano anche le forme Renieri e Ranieri. Rinieri di Francesco Rinieri di Colle, cavaliere di Santo Stefano, fu ammesso alla cittadinanza fiorentina nel 1630. Anton Francesco Rinieri fu ascritto al patriziato senese nel 1790 con il cognome «Rinieri Rocchi», per eredità dell'avo materno Girolamo Rocchi.
