Linaje navarro. Su casa solar estaba en el lugar de Legasa, del Ayuntamiento de Bértiz Arana y partido judicial de Pamplona. De esa casa fué descendiente Juan R., natural de Legasa, que casó con doña María de Istillarte, de la misma naturaleza, y tuvieron este hijo Pedro R. Istillarte, natural de Legasa, que contrajo matrimonio con doña Mariana de Oteiza y Apezteguía, natural de la villa navarra de Oteiza, en el partido judicial de Estella (hija de Miguel de Oteiza, natural de Oteiza, y de doña Mariana de Apezteguía, natural del lugar de Errazu, en el partido judicial de Pamplona). Fueron padres de Juan Lorenzo R. de Oteiza, natural de Oteiza y Caballero de la Orden de Santiago, en la que ingresó el 3 de Agosto de 1716. Otros descendientes de la misma casa de Legasa ganaron ejecutoria de nobleza ante los tribunales de Navarra en los años 1753 y 1775, y residieron en Pamplona.
