Famiglia di Milis, le cui notizie risalgono al secolo XIII. Era tra le famiglie del majores e, i suoi membri figurano impegnati nel governo della curatoria di Milis. Con la caduta del Giudicato d'Arborea, gli Respano decaddero e si ridussero a vivere a Milis, mantenendovi una posizione decorosa. Nel 1736 ottennero il riconoscimento del cavalierato ereditario e della nobiltà con un Francesco e con suo figlio Gianuario, benemeriti, nel 1765, della coltivazione del gelso. Nel secolo XIX la famiglia si trasferì ad Oristano, dove nel 1839 ereditò dai Valentino, per matrimonio, i titoli di conte di S. Martino, barone di Minutadas e signore della contrada del Mandrolisai. Della famiglia non si hanno più notizie dal secolo XX ed i titoli furono ereditati dai Sanna di Oristano. Altro ramo.
