Linaje de Asturias noble y antiguo. Ya en fines del siglo XV gozaba de notoriedad su casa solar sita en la Ría de San Esteban de Piantón, jurisdicción de la villa de Castropol, con rama establecida en la parroquia de Paramios, del Ayuntamiento de Vega de Ribadeo y partido judicial de Castropol. De dicho solar era descendiente en aquel tiempo Alonso López de R., marido de doña María Fernández, y ambos padres de Alonso López de R. Fernández, segundo del nombre, que casó con doña María Pérez, en quien tuvo estos hijos Juan López de R., que sigue; Pedro López de R.; y Pablo López de R. Juan López de R. promovió expediente de hidalguía y limpieza de sangre, en Castropol, en el año de 1638, en nombre y representación de su hijo Alonso, que en aquella fecha se encontraba ausente, declarando los testigos que depusieron en la probanza que
