Antica famiglia di origine prettamente veneziana, la quale conservò sempre quella tradizione marittima che fece grande Venezia, ed arricchì i suoi patrizi ed i suoi cittadini. Si ha memoria di un ramo oriundo dal Veneto e stabilitosi a Ferrara nel XV° secolo, ora estinto. Coprirono in diversi tempi elevate cariche civiche e di corporazioni, e diedero alla Repubblica Veneta vari valorosi Capitani di galee. Il 1 marzo 1755, Antonio Marino I fu insignito del titolo di Conte trasmissibile a tutti i figli maschi, con Decreto del Senato Veneto, per merito del figlio Giacomo, Console della Repubblica Veneta a Genova. Nello stesso anno furono ascritti nel Libro Aureo dei Titolati della Repubblica Veneta, che fu poi riconfermato con Sovrana Risoluzione di S.M.I.R.A. il 13 aprile 1829. Nell'anno 1827 il Conte Antonio Marino II, figlio di Gian Pietro, ebbe dal Papa Leone XII il titolo di Marchese di San Martino della Pantonara,
