Famiglia tra le più illustri, se non la più illustre del Nizzardo, originaria da Lantosca. La leggenda le dà origini scozzesi non riconosciute né accettate dalla storia; ma bastano le sue glorie domestiche a darle lustro sopra ogni origine straniera. Il capostipite sicuro, a prova di documenti, è Filippo, che otteneva lettere di nobiltà dal duca di Savoia Carlo Emanuele I il 16 gennaio 1617. Nacque da lui Pietro, medico in Nizza, marito di Camilla Michelotti, che erede, con le sorelle, di punti di S. Andrea, gli recava in casa la prima signoria feudale, di cui veniva investita il 21 aprile 1603. L'investitura era rinnovata il 13 maggio 1628 in capo al figlio loro Carloantonio (n. 5 ottobre 1611; dec. 12 febbraio 1643), padre di Pietroantonio (n. 14 febbraio 1639; dec. 19 febbraio 1711), il quale, acquistata una parte di Revel, otteneva che il feudo unito a S. Andrea fosse
