La famiglia, distintasi onorevolmente, attraverso i tempi, nella magistratura, nelle armi e nelle arti, discende da quel Luchino Ravelli, da Busca, che fiorito splendidamente tra il secolo XVI e XVII, ai servigi dell'Augusta Casa di Savoia, ebbe dal duca Carlo Emanuele I, il 3 luglio 1600, il grado di procuratore fiscale generale. Da costui nacque Alessandro, dottore in leggi e patrimoniale generale, che sposò una Eleonora Ceaglio, la cui famiglia, nel 1740, fondò una commenda mauriziana. Da Giorgio, che, trasportatasi nelle valli di Lanzo, sposò nel 1677 Anna Maria Barra e morì nel 1729, la genalogia è rigorosamente provata fino ai tempi attuali. Filippo Antonio, di Giovanni Giacomo, di Giorgio, fu dal 1750 al 1776 professore all'Università di Torino. Per rimeritare le benemerenze del suo lungo e lodevole insegnamento, re Vittorio Amedeo III lo nominò, il 21 settembre 1776, mastro uditore nella Camera dei Conti. Meritano di essere ricordati, come
