Il Foscarini, crede questa famiglia originaria di Napoli e portata in terra d'Otranto, ove godette nobiltà in Lecce ed in Taranto, verso la metà del secolo XVI, da Scipione, dottor di leggi, il quale, nel 1565, era secreto e Maestro Portolano di terra d'Otranto. Antica feudataria, investita del feudo di Cassineto da oltre duecento anni, come dalla prova dell'aspirante a R. Guardia del Corpo a cavallo Nicola nel 1852, ed ascritta al registro dei feudatari, come dalla provoca del nobile Antonio, nel 1856. Ricevuta, per giustizia, nel S.M.O. di Malta nel 1857 in persona del cavaliere Nicola di Lecce, mentre era già stata ricevuta, pel ramo di Taranto, nel 1687 come quarto del cavaliere Statella. Barone di Cassineto (mpr), R.D. di rinnovazione 13 marzo 1927 e RR.LL.PP. 27 luglio 1928, in persona di Andrea, di Nicola. La linea primogenita della famiglia si estinse in Marianna, che sposò il 6 febbraio
