Antiguo linaje de Cataluña y Mallorca. Ya en el siglo XV radicaba una familia R. en la villa mallorquina de Petra. De ella fue descendiente Antonio R., que en el año 1689 era jurado de la ciudad y reino de Mallorca. Entre los antiguos y más destacados varones catalanes de ese apellido figuran el P. Felipe R., provincial de la Orden de los Carmelitas, y el P. R. de Palmerola, designado diputado de Barcelona para acompañar al canciller Pedro B. Soler y otros caballeros que habían de recibir y felicitar al rey Felipe III por su enlace con doña Margarita de Austria, boda que debió celebrarse en la ciudad condal, para la cual se habían hecho grandes preparativos, pero que por imprevista circunstancias se efectuó después en Valencia.
