Apart from the affirmations of the Sienese genealogists, who would assign Salic origins to this family, it is certain that it belongs to the most ancient Tuscan aristocracy, having news from a bull of Pope Gregory VII (December 28, 1076) of Gerremia, of Ildebrando, presumed his founder. Rodolfo, known as "Gotulo", is believed to be born from this. He was mentioned with other Florentine barons in a placito by the Cardinal of Porto in 1029, from whose name his descendants were called "de filiis Rodulphi" and in the vernacular "Firidolfi". Ugo, his son, is mentioned in an act of donation to the monastery of Coltibuono in 1059; and in another similar act of 1092 figure Alberto, of said Ugo, who in the same year bought back from the brothers the portions to each of them due of the castle of Rufino in the plover of S.
