Nobili di parte geremea, furono detti anche Arpinelli convertendo in gentilizio un nome proprio da essi usato. Difatto è un Arpinello Riccadona il primo di questa famiglia ricordato dagli storici, il quale fu inviato a Parma e a Cremona nel 1203 per indurre que'due comuni a collegarsi con Bologna, poi giurò pei Bolognesi la lega co'Fiorentini e quindi fu podestà di Osimo. Un Marchesino si adoperò nel 1254 a pacificare le Romagne, e governò Modena, Alessandria e Jesi; un Brandelisio Riccadona nel 1262 fu inviato al Papa Urbano IV in Viterbo per chiedere che fosse confermato al Comune di Bologna il possesso di Argelata e di Medicina; un altro Brandelisio Riccadona professore di decretati in patria alla fine del XIII secolo, e tre anziani dal 1321 al 1326.
