Famiglia oriunda da Occhieppo Inferiore (Biella). La tradizione della discendenza di questa famiglia da "Ricardi Cirrioni", teste, con altri personaggi notevoli, nell'atto col quale il vescovo di Vercelli, Uguccione, investe il 12 aprile 1160 gli uomini di Biella del Piazzo, non ha fondamento sicuro, tanto più ove si consideri che manca l'originale del diploma vescovile, e nelle cinque copie del secolo XIV esistenti nell'Archivio Storico della città di Biella, il nome del teste risulta in tre colla variante Aicardi. Le prime memorie sicure iniziano con Clemente, che era notaio, e viveva a metà del secolo XVI, figlio di un Giovanni e di Maria Aventura. Ebbe Clemente tre figli, l'avvocato Pietro, che era professore di leggi nell'Università di Torino, ed ottenne concessione dell'arma gentilizia, con PP. del 1° novembre 1581, Giovanni Battista e Giovanni, i quali alla lor volta ottennero concessione e conferma successiva dell'arma il 1° ottobre 1584 e il
