Familia antigua, oriunda da Sospello, cuyos recuerdos se remontan al siglo XIV, que ya en la antigüedad fue ilustrada por personajes distinguidos. Pietro, Paolo y Maria Borgondi pertenecían a ella, quienes tenían porciones de Castelnuovo como regalo del prefecto Andrea Valchieri en 1711. Su hijo Giuseppe (nacido el 26 de junio de 1704, fallecido el 8 de marzo de 1782), que era abogado de los pobres en Niza (1740) y posteriormente prefecto en dicha ciudad (1768), fue investido en Castelnuovo el 6 de diciembre de 1736 con el título noble y fue Ferres, comprado por el Balbo Simeoni, e investido con el título de barón el 20 de febrero de 1756. Su hijo Pietro (nacido el 7 de diciembre de 1739, fallecido el 27 de diciembre de 1807) fue abogado sustituto de los pobres (1768) y procurador general de Comercio del Consulado de Niza ( 1774).
