Famille ancienne et illustre, appelée Renzi, Rienzi, De Renzi, De Rienzis ou De Renzis, de noblesse claire et éprouvée, originaire du territoire romain, qui se vante comme un jambage ce fameux Cola di Rienzo, ou le tribun malheureux qui a mené l'insurrection populaire de Rome, en 1347, se répandit au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie. À la fin du XVIe siècle, un Vincenzo avait eu l'investiture du fief de Montanaro et, en 1628, son fils Ottavio avait obtenu l'inscription dans la "platea" des nobles de Teano. Au siècle suivant, la famille passa à Capoue, où un autre Francesco eut le titre de Baron de San Bartolomeo, en 1765.
