Ancient German family, called Rietsch or Riesch, of clear and ancestral virtue, which has spread over the centuries in various regions of Europe and, mainly, in France, where the most conspicuous settlements are found between the 16th and 17th centuries , especially in a Calvinist environment. The origin of this cognomination, to say the least of authoritative genealogists, should be sought in a modification of the toponym Rietschen, today common in Saxony, and, probably, the birthplace of a, today unknown, progenitor. In any case, according to what is handed down to us, this family belonged to the nobility "Briefadel" (letter "letter of nobility"), or titles created by the monarch with patent letters, a fashion that, influenced by French practice, was introduced in Germany under Emperor Charles IV (r. 1346-1378). Inquartato; al primo e al quarto di verde alle tre bande d'oro, al secondo d'oro alle due stelle di nero, al terzo d'oro ai due gigli di nero; sul tutto d'argento al leone di rosso movente dalla punta coronato d'oro tenente nella zampa destra una stella del medesimo. Quattro elmi coronati. Cimieri: 1° una stella di nero con svolazzi d'oro e di nero; 2° un aquila di nero beccata, membrata e coronata d'oro con svolazzi d'oro e di verde; 3° il leone dello scudetto con svolazzi d'argento e di rosso; 4° un giglio di nero con svolazzi d'oro e di nero. Supporti: due liocorni d'argento con la testa rivolta.
