Antico ed assai nobile casato toscano, con residenza in Sansepolcro, conosciuto come Rigi o Riggi, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatosi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regione d'Italia. La famiglia venne ammessa al supremo onore del gonfalonierato sin dal 1560, in persona di Antonio, di Gabrielo, di Andrea. Essa inoltre per giustizia vestì il glorioso abito di cavaliere nell'Ordine di S. Stefano, con Alessandro, di Francesco, in data 25 maggio 1690. D'altronde questa nobile famiglia può vantare l'aver dato i natali a illustri guerrieri e prodi capitani. Sono da segnalare un Giano, al servizio militare di Ranuccio Farnese, poi sotto le insegne del Conte Giovanni Sforza d'Aragona, che lo creò cavaliere aurato nel 1503, passato quindi al servizio della Repubblica di Venezia, che gli affidò la custodia delle bocche del Cattaro; ed un Cosimo capitano al servizio del Granduca di Toscana Ferdinando II, nella guerra contro il pontefice Urbano
