Familia boloñesa muy antigua y noble originaria de Cento que se extendió a lo largo de los siglos en varias regiones de Italia. El origen de la cognominación es anterior al siglo XVI y debe derivar de formas hipocorísticas de la aféresis de nombres como Amerigo, Federigo, Oderigo o similares que pertenecieron al progenitor. Los nombres de los Righetti se recuerdan en textos, escrituras notariales y contratos para la venta de tierras y casas desde tiempos muy antiguos. El comentarista GB de Crollalanza informa el blasón de esta familia en los volúmenes de su histórico diccionario blasón de las nobles y notables familias italianas. La familia levantó sus armas. D'azzurro, en la mano derecha armada de plata, sosteniendo un palo del mismo; con la cabeza de Anjou. El jefe de Anjou fue otorgado al partido Guelph, en memoria de la victoria sobre Manfredi obtenida en Benevento en 1266.
