Ancienne et très noble famille bolognaise, de vertu claire et ancestrale, qui s'est répandue au fil des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie. L'origine de ce nom, selon des généalogistes faisant autorité, devrait être recherchée dans une modification hypocoristique de l'aphérèse du nom "Arrigo", qui appartenait probablement à un ancêtre aujourd'hui inconnu. En tout cas, la noblesse évidente de la famille est démontrée par la présence de son blason dans le précieux ouvrage "Blasone Bolognese - Armoiries des familles nobles et citoyennes de Bologne recueillies par Floriano Canetoli". De plus, cette famille, tout au long de son histoire, a toujours réussi à produire une série d'hommes qui ont fait son nom illustre, dans les emplois publics et dans le service militaire. Parmi ceux-ci, sans enlever la valeur de ceux omis, on peut citer : Filippo, docteur en "utroque jure", résidant à Bologne, en 1534 ; Girolamo, porte-étendard de la Sainte Église
