Le prime memorie di questa famiglia rimontano al XII secolo, ed era in quell'epoca appellata Rido o del Rido, nome provenutole da una piccola terra del Padovano sulla quale ebbe dominio. Un Nicolò fondò nel 1391 un collegio per studenti poveri, istituzione che visse sino ai nostri giorni. Antonio fu capitano delle milizie della Chiesa e castellano di Castel Sant'Angelo sotto i pontefici Martino V, Nicolò V ed Eugenio IV. Nel 1626 fu ritenuta fra le nobili nella riforma del Consiglio di Padova e dal Senato Veneto decorata del titolo comitale. Fu confermata nobile il 26 dicembre 1818. Anche la Repubblica di Genova volle aggregarla alla cittadinanza e nobiltà genovese nella persona di Antonio da R. e suoi discendenti. Le prime cariche del Comune furono in ogni tempo da essa sostenute, e molti de' suoi membri fecero parte del Consiglio nobile, furono vicari, ambasciatori, conservatori del Monte, capitani, cavalieri
