Antica e nobile famiglia venuta dalla Provenza in Italia nel 1265 con i fratelli Decio ed Ettore, al seguito di Carlo I d'Angiò, e stabilitasi in Capitanata, dove esercitò alte cariche, ebbe vasti possessi e godè ampi privilegi. Appartenne poi al primo dei tre ceti di Candela, dove ininterrottamente fu chiamata a ricoprire le più importanti magistrature, fondò numerosi benefici di jus patronato familiare e possedette, fin dal 1400, altari privati e cappelle gentilizie. Benemerita per molteplici legati e fondazioni di pubblica assistenza ed utilità, questa famiglia fu illustrata in ogni epoca da uomini eminenti nelle armi, nella Chiesa, nel governo: Gualtiero, sotto il regno di Carlo II di Angiò; Antonio e Amedeo; Raimondo, valoroso uomo d'arme nell'esercito di Fernando il Cattolico; Pietro, Governatore all'epoca del Gran Capitano Consalvo; Giacomo e Giovan Battista, Dottori, Capitani nel secolo XVII e Giuseppe, loro fratello, Governatore di Canosa; Francesco Antonio, Priore di Candela,
