Antica ed illustre famiglia detta Rizzo o, più anticamente, Riccio, di chiara ed avita nobiltà, che si vuole originaria di Napoli, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Un Giovanni Rizzoardizzone fu castellano del R. Palazzo di Messina, barone di metà di Cosimo o Fontanafredda e forse egli stesso fu capitano di giustizia in Trapani nel 1435-36 e senatore della città nel 1439-40; un notar Michele fu capitano di giustizia in Calatafimi nel 1403; un Emanuele fu cavaliere dell'ordine di Malta nel 1434; un Giovanni Antonio, come donatario di Belvico Urso, fu barone di Miri per investitura del 12 giugno 1458 e fu senatore di Messina negli anni 1464-65 1468-69; un Bernardino, figlio del precedente, fu senatore in detta città nel 1496-97; un Benedetto Isso fu senatore di Trapani nel 1473-74, capitano di giustizia nel 1474-75, e, per la moglie, possedette l'isola di Favignana, della quale ottenne investitura
