Cette famille est bien véritablement originaire de Flandre où elle était établie depuis plusieurs siècles. On la retrouve à différentes époques, en divers localités et il y a eu nombreux personnages illustres de ce nom. On signale les personnages dignes de mémoire: Jacques-Antoine, gentilhomme de la chambre de Gaston, frère de Louis XIII et maître d'hôtel ordinaire de la reine Anne d'Autriche, naturalisé en 1664; un page du Roi en 1668. Cette famille éteinte en la personne de Guy-Marie-Charles, fusillé à Quiberon en 1795 s'est aliée aux Bouvens, Cléguennec, Kermerc'hou, Kersaintgilly, le Grand et Huon de Kermadec. On remarque (dès le XIIIème siècle) des alliances importantes avec des familles nobles en Bretagne et autres régions françaises.
