Famiglia umbra oriunda dalla Francia di antica e nobile tradizione propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. La cognominizzazione è anteriore al XV secolo e deriva dalla italianizzazione del cognome originario Robellin. In Francia questa famiglia fu tra le nobili di Tournon fin dal XII secolo ed annovera vari personaggi cospicui tra i quali un Henri, crociato nel 1248 è menzionato nelle "Chartes latines de 1191 à 1249"; un Jean, Barone di Retz nel 1383; un Mathelin, signore di Moulin-Henriet e castellano di la Benate nel 1442. In Italia i nomi dei Robellini sono prevalentemente ricordati in testi, atti notarili e contratti di vendita di terre e case fin da tempi assai remoti, dai quale appare che erano di condizione agiata e nobile.
