Famiglia veneta, oriunda da Fusca presso Tolmezzo nel Friuli. Nel XVIII secolo passò a Bassano, quindi a Trieste nel 1823 a Sandrigo e finalmente a Vicenza, ove diede grande incremento all'arte della filatura e tessitura del lino e della canapa. Fondò quattro grandi stabilimenti a Vicenza, a Vivaro, a Cavazzale ed a Debba, acquistando rinomanza sia per le benemerenze industriali che per opere benefiche. Il Sommo pontefice Leone XIII concesse a Giuseppe il titolo di marchese con trasmissione primogeniale mascolina, con Breve 6 marzo 1901, titolo autorizzato nel Regno con D.R. 24 dicembre 1925 e RR.LL.PP del 16 maggio 1926 e riconosciuto con D.P. 3 ottobre 1927 per la successione al figlio Giuseppe. La presenza del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti
