Antiga e mui nobre família apuliana, originária da cidade de Lecce, de clara e ancestral virtude, que se propagou ao longo dos séculos em várias regiões da Itália. O vestígio mais remoto relativo a esta família refere-se ao tribuno romano Publius Servilius Rullus (60 aC). Em qualquer caso, a clara nobreza da família Rollo na Puglia é confirmada por sua presença na valiosa obra manuscrita "Delle Famiglie Nobili Leccesi" do historiador FA De Giorgi (1625). O progenitor desta família, historicamente documentado, é identificado em Lupo Rollo (1510-1572) que, por méritos pessoais, obteve os títulos de Cavaleiro de Ouro e Conde Palatino, por diploma do Imperador do Sacro Império Romano e Rei de Espanha Carlos V, a Castelnuovo di Napoli em 7 de março de 1536.
