Este mosteiro é muito antigo, já mencionado no século VIII e repetidamente mencionado no Livro Pontifício. Fica perto da igreja de Tre Fontane, anteriormente chamada "Ad Acqua Salvis", o local onde foi decapitado o apóstolo dos gentios, San Paolo, uma igreja que teve que se erguer no tempo de Constantino. O fundo fazia parte da Massa di Acqua Salvis, de propriedade de San Gregorio Magno (590-603) e doada por ele à basílica de San Paolo, para que, com sua renda, ele providenciasse o gasto das lâmpadas. A fundação da igreja dedicada a Santos Vincenzo e Anastasio e a do convento da abadia são atribuídas ao Papa Honório I e remontam a 625. Adriano I a restaurou por volta de 722, como escreve Riccardo monavo clumacenze; Leão III em 796 teve a igreja reconstruída de suas fundações.
