Très illustre maison de la Bretagne, d'une haute antiquité, dont les premiers auteurs connus sont: Robert, accompagne le duc Guillaume à la conquête d'Angleterre en 1066; Raoul, abbé de Lire, au diocèse d'Evreux en 1282; Geoffroi, capitaine de Saint-James de Beuvron en 1359; Jean, premier écuyer du roi Charles VI en 1403; Jean, vice-chancelier du duc François II, mort en 1480; Jean, gouverneur de Fougères, épouse en 1485 Marie, dame du Pontglo; César, chevalier de l'ordre en 1600; François, chevalier de l'ordre, gentilhomme de la chambre et maréchal de camp en 1649, épouse en 1637, Charlotte de Poilley; des capitaines de cinquante et cent hommes d'armes d'ordonnances; deux chevaliers de Malte en 1645 et 1717; un abbé de Maizières, au diocèse de Chalon-sur-Saône en 1748. La branche de Sacé fondue dans Budes; la branche de la Chesnelaye et d'Ardaine fondue en 1728 dans Roncherolles, d'où le marquisat de la Chesnelaye a passé aux Boisbaudry; par acquêt en 1765 aux la Motte, puis par alliance aux la Forest d'Armaillé et aux Palys.
