Antichissima famiglia friulana, oriunda di Arba, la quale si trasferì, nella prima metà del XIV secolo, in Spilimbergo, ove grazie alle professioni liberali ed agli impieghi pubblici, cui taluno dei suoi membri si dedicò, si procurò una cospicua posizione fra le famiglie notabili del sito. Marcantonio Rommano, del qu. Giovanni (n. nel 1595), laureatosi in giurisprudenza, trasferì la propria residenza in Udine, ove, nel 1635, sposò la nobile Marzia, figlia di Marcantonio dei signori di Manzano, vedova in primi voti del nobile Antonio de Cottis, di Cividale, e in secondi del nobile Francesco della Porta. Con questo matrimonio entrarono in casa Rommano vaste possessioni in pertinenza del villaggio di Manzano, che si conservano tuttora in famiglia. Nel 1629 il dottor Marcantonio chiese l'ascrizione nel nobile Consiglio di Udine, ciò che gli fu accordato con delibera del 28 agosto.
