Antica ed assai nobile famiglia spagnola, con residenza principale in La Coruña, ed insediamenti cospicui anche in Castiglia, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Europa. Sotto il regno di don Fernando I, nell'anno 1050, doña Urraca de Ron si sposò con Garci Méndez Sorred, uno degli uomini più importanti del suo tempo, capostipite della grande famiglia di Sotomayor, secondo quanto affermano il Pellicer nel suo "Memorial del Marqués de Rivas" e Felipe Bernardo de Quirós nel suo "Memorial Genealógico de la Casa de Olloniego". Durante il regno di Alfonso VI (1073-1109), donna Toda Álvarez de Ron si sposò con Pedro Suárez Gallego, anch'egli facoltoso uomo della sua epoca, nativo di Santa María de Ortigueira (Coruña), e da tal matrimonio si originò il casato dei Marchesi di los Vélez e tutta la linea di los Fajardos, Adelantados de Murcia e dei Marqueses di Molina,
