Alte und sehr adelige spanische Familie mit Hauptwohnsitz in A Coruña und auffälligen Siedlungen auch in Kastilien, von klarer und angestammter Tugend, verbreitete sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte in verschiedenen Regionen Europas. Unter der Herrschaft von Don Fernando I. heiratete Doña Urraca de Ron im Jahr 1050 Garci Méndez Sorred, einen der wichtigsten Männer seiner Zeit, Stammvater der großen Sotomayor-Familie, wie Pellicer in seinem „Memorial del Marqués“ sagt de Rivas“ und Felipe Bernardo de Quirós in seinem „Memorial Genealógico de la Casa de Olloniego“.
