La famiglia, detti anche Roncale e Roncalle, si trovavano fin dal 1504 a Rovigo, ove erano ascritti a quel Consiglio nobile; si distinsero nelle opere civili, letterarie ed in prò della patria; furono, inoltre, confermati nobili il 14 luglio 1820. Uno di loro, Gian Domenico Roncalli, Deputato di Rovigo, fu creato cavaliere dal doge Francesco Venier nel 1554, e simile onorificenza venne conferita ad altri membri di questa famiglia dai Re di Francia. Nella Lombardia i Roncalli lasciarono buona traccia di loro, specialmente attraverso le opere di un Francesco Roncalli Parolino, medico di grande rinomanza, nato a Brescia nel 1692. Forse egli apparteneva a quel ramo dei Roncalli che venne investito dalla Repubblica Veneta del feudo di Montorio di Verona, a cui era annesso il titolo di conte trasmissibile ai discendenti e riconosciuto legalmente dal Governo Italiano.
