Dal castello omonimo, fondato nel 1050 sul territorio di Bassano, trasse questa famiglia il proprio nome. In seguito si trapiantò in Treviso, cui diede illustri cittadini. Andrea nel 1190 era uno dei primari cittadini di Treviso, e nel 1159 sostenne la carica di console insieme a Falcone e Federico suoi consanguinei. Altro ramo. Antica e nobile famiglia nobile in Gascogna ritenuta della medesima agnazione della precedente. Molte furono le famiglie venete che ebbero nobiltà, ed anche questa nobile famiglia Rossano è menzionata dallo storico F. Schroder, nel suo "Repertorio genealogico delle famiglie confermate nobili, e dei titolati nobili esistenti nelle provincie venete", contenente anche le notizie storiche sulla loro origine, edito in Venezia, tipografia di Alvisopoli nel 1830.
