Famiglia di Napoli. Sua Santità Pio IX con Breve del 1856, reso esecutorio da S. M. il re Ferdinando II con Rescritto 21 marzo 1857, concesse il titolo di conte (mpr.) a Giacomo che, nel 1836, aveva sposato Maria Luisa de Medici dei principi di Ottaiano. Il titolo fu riconosciuto nel Regno d'Italia con Decreto Ministeriale 30 aprile 1898. L'aggiutna del cognome Caracciolo, pei cinque figliuoli del conte deced. Achille, figliuolo di Gaicomo sunnominato e di deced. Eleonora Caracciolo die duchi di S. Vito, fu autorizzato con Regio Decreto 10 gennaio 1882. Lo stemma della famiglia Rossi Caracciolo si blasona così: Partito: nel primo troncato di azzurro e di rosso al leone d'argento rivoltato attraversante; nel secondo di azzurro a tre fasce di rosso bordate di argento.
