La famiglia, che aggiunge poi il cognome Deodati, è oriunda di Scandiano. Nel secolo XVII viveva in Scandiano Givoanni R.-Vecchi, che ebbe un figlio, Domenico (n. del 1634), laureatorsi nell'Università di Reggio nel 1652 in medicina. Fu medico dei duchi di Guastalla. Fu anche poeta, e stampò parecchie poesie anche latine. Poi si laureò a Modena anche in diritto civile e canonico. Giulio R. di Scandiano, che fu podestà di Finale (Emilia) e di Mirandola. Egli scrisse una voluminosa opera di giurisprudenza, con raccolta di sentenza e massime, rimasta manoscritta. Altro R. Giovanni si laureò in legge presso l'Università di Reggio nel 1722. Eliseo nato in Reggio, ma abitante in Scandiano, che è qualificato in documenti col titolo di "Magnifico", fu ascritto alla cittadinanza reggiana dal Senato di Reggio con diploma 20 ottobre 1603.
