Antica e nobile casata del Regno delle Due Sicilie, conosciuta come Rosito o Rossitto, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Secondo quanto ci viene tramandato, questa famiglia di origine catalana passata per la Sardegna ebbe prima culla in Basilicata e, più precisamente, fu tra le nobili della città di Rotonda, come testimoniato anche dalla presenza in detta città dell'omonimo palazzo nobiliare. Un suo ramo però, nel corso del XVII secolo, si era portato in Sicilia ove, a causa dei soliti fenomeni di fonetica dialettale, il cognome mutò da Rosito a Rossitto. I primi insediamenti si ebbero nel siracusano da dove poi la famiglia ha diramato ulteriormente. Nel dispiegarsi dei secoli, anche questo ramo siciliano si è distinto per la pregevolezza dei personaggi a cui ha dato i natali. Dai nostri archivi, ricordiamo: mastro Vincenzo Rossitto, proprietario terriero in Noto, fiorente nel XVII
