Ancienne et noble famille de Gênes, de vertu claire et ancestrale, qui s'est répandue dans le monde entier, au cours des siècles. D'après ce qui a été transmis, cette noble Maison est bien originaire de France. Le plus ancien représentant dont nous ayons la mémoire est Ugo Rovello, le dix-neuvième Grand Maître de la religion sacrée de Jérusalem. Son élection eut lieu en 1260 dans la ville de Ptolémaïs ; il était originaire de la province du Dauphiné. Chevalier d'une grande éloquence et d'un grand cœur, il gouverna sa Religion avec une prudence singulière et, après y avoir célébré cinq Chapitres Généraux, passa goûter au ciel en 1278 la récompense de ses gloires. Ce sont donc ses descendants qui s'installèrent à Gênes où ils semblent être présents en tant que canuts depuis le XIVe siècle.
