Diverse famiglie liguri ebbero questo casato e la tradizione assegna loro come luoghi d'origine Voltri, Chiavari e la Valle della Polcevera. Una di esse fu ascritta all'Albergo genovese dei Lercari (1528) ed usò il primo stemma. Altra famiglia, tuttora esistente, fu nello stesso anno ascritta all'Albergo Usodimare in persona dei fratelli Gio. Battista, Stefano e Vincenzo, qm. Antonio, che adottarono il secondo stemma; gli stessi risultano in seguito ascritti all'Albergo Imperiale usando il primo stemma. Infine nel 1698 un Antonio Giuseppe Emanuele, qm. Francesco, oriundo di Voltri, fu ascritto al Libro della Nobiltà genovese e la sua discendenza continua; essa usa il secondo stemma. Delle due famiglie odierne, la prima ha come capostipite Luciano, ed attraverso Giovanni, Bartolomeo, Antonio, acquisitore del feudo signorile di Riva e Nazzano da Ippolito De Mari il 1° ott. 1712, perviene ai fratelli Carlo Antonio, ascritto Nobiltà genovese 28 febbr. 1783, nuovamente investito del feudo
