As primeiras notícias documentadas sobre essa família começam com um Alamanno lembrado em vários atos, e chamavam de "o Oricellario" por sua descoberta feliz de que, em suas viagens ao exterior por razões comerciais, ele criara grama "rusca" ou "oricella", cujos sucos manipulados com habilidade com outras substâncias foram aplicados com sucesso na coloração dos panos de sua produção em violeta, retratando ganhos substanciais. A partir desse apelido seus descendentes juntaram-se à cognominazione de "Oricellaj", que então no uso idvenne "de 'R.". De Giunta, nasceu seu segundo filho, mencionado em um instrumento de 1263, Bernardo, chamado "Naddo", que foi o primeiro de seu povo a obter o supremo judiciário da república, ou seja, o priorado em 1304 e o gonfalonier da Justiça em 1308. De Bingeri (ou Belinghieri), um de seus dezesseis filhos, que era um guerreiro caloroso e, pela ajuda que trouxe aos sieneses, obteve o privilégio de poder
