Una delle più cospicue e nobili famiglie napolitane, ascritta come scrive Villabianca ne' primi sedili di Capuano, originaria da consoli romani, feconda di porporati e di personaggi illustri nelle lettere e nelle armi. Un ramo di essa fiorì in Messina ne' principi della Scaletta, incominciato da Antonino R., figlio di Carlo duca della Bagnara signore di Nicosia 1650, principe della Scaletta 1673 essendo stato senatore 1160 e 1661. Fiorirono in oltre: un Placido primo principe della Foresta 1670, della Scaletta 1678; un Antonio principe come sopra 1710, signore di Guidormandri, barone di Giampilieri, del Molino, ed Artelia, gentiluomo di re Vittorio Amedeo è poi di re Carlo III; un Calogero investito dei cennati stati 1740; un Giovanni egualmente 1745; ed un Antonio gentiluomo di camera, senatore 1762 e governatore degli azzurri 1763. Da tale ramo vuolsi poi derivato il marchese Girolamo R. ministro della R. Cassa, cavaliere del Toson d'Oro
