Cette famille est bien véritablement originaire de Bretagne où elle était établie depuis plusieurs siècles. On la retrouve à différentes époques, en divers localités et il y a eu nombreux personnages illustres de ce nom. On signale les personnages dignes de mémoire: Henri, croisé en 1248 (Chartes latines de 1191 à 1249 relatives aux croisés, provenant du cabinet Courtois); Guillaume, de la paroisse de Guenroc, entendu dans l'enquête pour la canonisation de Charles de Blois, en 1371; Thomas, abbé de la Chaume en 1386; Charles, chevalier de l'Hermine en 1454. Fondue dans Ferron. On remarque (dès le XIIIème siècle) des alliances importantes avec des familles nobles en Bretagne et autres régions françaises.
