Hugues Ruffo of the Ruffi or Ruffo family, from Naples, settled in Dauphiné around the middle of the 13th century; the Dauphin Humbert welcomed him and attached him to his court with the title of counselor. The name of Ruffi was translated into French, after the king's edict, which prohibited foreign names in public documents, into that of des Roux, which by corruption became Deiroux in the idiom of Haute Provence. In 1747 the lord of Ruffi de Pontevès-Gevaudan, at that time established in the Basses-Alpes, resumed the name of Ruffi by virtue of the decision of the seal and titles commission. His son was baptized under the name of Félix-Tristan Ruffi. The name of Pontevès, from the counts of Gévaudan, passed into the family of Ruffi or Ruffo towards the end of the 16th century by adoption and substitution of Hector de Pontevès, last lord of Silans and Gévaudan;

Écartelé, aux 1 et 4, d'argent, à l'emmanché de sable de quatre pièces et de deux demies, mouvant de la pointe de l'écu, aux 2 et 3, d'argent, à trois pals de gueules, à la bande d'azur chargée de trois besants d'or, brochant sur le tout. Pour le porteur du titre Couronne de marquis. Supports: à dextre un griffon contourné d'or, armé et lampassé de gueules, et à senestre un lion contourné au naturel, tous deux couronnés d'or à l'antique. Pour les autres descendants: Heaume couronné. Cimier: une tête et col de cheval d'argent. Devise: VIS UNITA FORTIOR EST NOBILISSIMA ET VIRTUTISSIMA.

Blason de la famille Ruffo de Bonneval Lille - Conc. du titre de marquis de la Fare, mars 1768. Rec. à Naples, 23 septembre 1796, que la famille Ruffo de Bonneval descend de Guillaume Ruffo, comte de Sinopoli, chambellan, en 1325, du roi Robert de Naples.; Admission dans la noblesse belge, avec le titre de marquis, 31 décembre 1902.
