Familia antigua en la nobleza de Salerno, que se cree que es de origen normando, y que algunos autores consideran de la sangre de los Guiscards, según lo informado por Candida. Una rama de la familia Ruggio se estableció en Francia, y se dice que es Rouge. Atribuido al Patriziato de Salerno en el Seggio di Campo, y al Patriziato de Trani, por el cual la abolición de los asientos se atribuyó al Registro de Plazas Cerradas. Recibido en el SMO de Malta en el Priorato en 1598 en persona de la cav. Matteo, habiéndolo convertido en pruova por su antepasado Francesco, noble de Salerno del Seggio di Campo, y pasó en el convento en 1776 con el caballero Gerardo como prueba de consanguinidad con dicha cav.
